My gf has been in customer support role for 6+ years for a non-profit company. She’s thinking to break into tech to increase TC but afraid to apply due to her lack of technical knowledge. Is it a requirement to have a technical background or it really depends on the company product? TIA

  • Super easy to do if you have the motivation. Take a couple MOOCs, or do a bootcamp, put a couple projects on GitHub and highlight how your ‘non-traditional’ background makes you a ‘diverse’ candidate on your resume/application. Took me 6 months to go from social worker at a non-profit to a level 62 job at Microsoft.

What’s her current role or job function? And when you say “break into tech” - you mean become a developer or switch to a non-tech job in tech industry?

If she'd be interested in a CS role in tech, we're looking for more customer service-oriented folks, tech experience is less important. Feel free to send a dm for referral!
