All Microsoft Canada people,

I got my first portion of stocks vested in Microsoft and 50% of stocks were withheld as tax. Now I'm in Microsoft Canada and the stocks vested were in USD. The payroll told me the tax info is passed on to payroll which then deducts correct tax and refunds if necessary. Anyone knows about this?

  • Hey OP, did you get the answer to your question? According to me rsus should be taxed as the bracket in which you fall. I am also in the same boat and want to the answer.

That's pretty normal at Microsoft even in the US. They use a portion of the vested RSU's to cover the tax resulting from the spread (the difference between the market price and issue price which is normally $0 so it ends up being just the market value)
