Is it really true? Glad I didn’t make the switch. I feel like any good eng can do pm job in their sleep anyway haha

"If you are a non-eng PM you're likely a mediocre one. The best PMs are technically skilled."

Sundar Pichai's undergrad degree from IIT was in Metallurgy, which is IMHO a chemistry-physics combo degree. I don't think he ever wrote a line of code in his life but no doubt he's a smart guy - getting hired into McKinsey as a management consultant is not easy, definitely harder than getting hired into Google as a PM. As long as one has a heavily math-based degree, they are qualified for today's tech jobs. If you can grok advanced math, you can understand anything in tech. Sundar could have been a coder if he wanted but probably saw himself as a future strategic leader rather than an engineer. People with liberal arts degrees from top schools who minor in CS/math also seem to be good. It's the English majors from Podunk U who don't do well as PMs (or as SWEs).

Because op in Indian and Indians complain about PMs all the time. It's so predictable.
