Evaluating options between Seattle and NYC for an internal move. Outside US now.
On the surface Seattle - lower taxer, depressing weather, would need a car.
NYC - higher taxes, better QOL, donโt need a car
Have lived in NYC before at much lower TC, taxe savings are kinda big now. New role has similar TC for both locations.

I don't think NYC would have higher-quality life. Bodegas and hobos on the subway - why would you crave that.
Vacationing has the benefit that you can go to a different exciting destination every time. Living in the South has the drawback that you have no money to go anywhere else and you also have to put up with all the socially conservative policies this usually entails. More money = more freedom, it's simple.
