Recruiters, do you look up average salaries at a candidate's current company?

SWE compensation seems to vary widely by company and location. Recruiters, do you guess or estimate what a candidate is making at their current company, e.g. by searching glassdoor/levels, so you don't offer them too much? Or is it more based on interview performance/level/salary bands?

There’s always this weird assumption that recruiters try to low ball. Why would we do that? It’s not our money. We aren’t incentivized to give lower offers. All we are incentivized to do is hire people so it’s in our best interest to get the candidate as much as possible to increase chances of having a higher closing percentage.
Take Coinbase for instance. Very publicly, we don’t negotiate. Multiple blog posts, National media articles, discussion on Blind, etc. Fixed comp by level. And yet, I’d say 50% of the time I deliver an offer, the candidate still tries to negotiate up. Nobody wants to take the first number.
Unfortunately there is a total lack of trust between Recruiter and Candidate these days. With both sides at fault
I have personally had candidates accept terms below what I was authorized to give (before we moved to fixed comp) and revised their offer letter to give them the higher dollar amount. Like I said, it’s not my money. I want an employee to be as happy as possible when they arrive. Selfishly, it helps me a great deal
