Best place to learn Data Science technical skills?

May 6, 2021 12 Comments

If I already have SQL & statistics background, what is the best way for me to learn Python, R and any other relevant tools to market myself as a data scientist to FAANG? Is it better to do something like General Assembly, or do it on my own online?

You can make it to FB without Python/R, as a DS in analytics (if that’s of interest to you). However, note of caution from my experience - once you get here learning is tough because the volume of work is high

Def not General Assembly— low quality, expensive tuition, low placement rate. actually a deterrent on your resume. better off learning by yourself.

If you already have foundational knowledge Try books to gain depth in a subject area. For example, Data Pipeline by Densmore for DE stuff, or Trustworthy Online Experiments by Xu for experimentation.

  • If you know any other programming language it should be pretty easy to learn Python. So I personally would not bother with a course (and didnt). Maybe get one of the more popular books on Amazon, or look at people's code on Kaggle.
