Amazon policy on vacation advance early in new position?

Apr 17 5 Comments

I may be joining Amazon soon, and would likely start late May. (I like the team, good work, please no PIP jokes)

Currently, however, I was planning with my sister to visit Israel around late July/early August for a week to see family which I haven't seen since before COVID, including very elderly grandparents. Is Amazon amenable to doing a vacation advance or unpaid leave two months into a new role? I will be talking with the HM this week I was just curious as to what others have experienced. I could potentially delay the start date but it might be difficult to schedule that with other family.

  • Why you leaving LLNL to amazon? Are you SDE? The salary does not look like staff for LLNL.

I personally did this myself (retail org at amazon). Just double check with your manager and make sure they are cool with it. When you have the time off available to you, backfill that time. Most managers I've met are cool with that approach.

Not officially afaik, but some managers are flexible and don't care what their reports put into the system
