I am invited for a virtual on-site loop for applied scientist role with one of the Alexa AI teams (ASR side).

Any Amazon AS here? Would like to know what you guys look for in the candidate generally. I see that there’s a one hour presentation as part of the loop. Are the rest of the rounds based on this? If not, how important is this?
My experience is not in ASR so I’m not sure how to keep the audience focused or what level of detail I need to go in the presentation. I read that it is advised not to talk about multiple projects so if I talk about some research domain other than teams focus (ASR) is that ok?

Also, it’d be great if anyone who interviewed for similar roles share their interview experience.

TIA

TC: 😅😩
YOE: 3

PS - in before “dont join Amazon”: it’s ok, my current role is much worse and I’ll take the first offer I get.

Everyone science guy ( ds, as, rs ) has to clear same rounds of science interview. AS has to clear sde level coding bar also. So focus on more stats, models, data and other things than all this crap on blind that one guy to rule all. Bar raiser are folks who have been to minimum 250-300+ interviews. So obviously their opinion against leadership matters, but until someone has core technical skills, just leadership principles are not gonna take the interview to finish line. So focus on basics, remember your work and try to do well, all other things are just white noise

Sr. AS here, don’t worry about one individual round. Have details about project ready on your fingertips if you wanna ace the interview, show only your work what you have done, people get caught showing other folks work. We won’t tell them but we bring later in discussion. All rounds are mutually exclusive, focus more on model you built, every step there, and good science knowledge will help

Thanks! I’ll keep that in mind. Do AS interviews also follow the same pattern as SDE interviews where “barraiser” round is often deemed to be the only round that matters?
