Hello, I have recently got offers from Sumologic and Rivian. Not sure which one to pick. Both are amazing teams and I’ll be a Staff Software Engineer.
I also have onsite interviews scheduled at FB, Google, Databricks and Brex.
Sumologic Offer: $190,000 base, 18000 stock units, 20,000 signon, 10% annual bonus. 1 year cliff on vesting, then stocks vest quarterly. Stock refresher happens every year based on performance. They also offer ESPP with 15% discount on lowest price of 6months.
TC @Sumo = $349,000 (stock price at $30, includes signon)
Rivian offer: $180,000 base, $220,000 worth of stocks (don’t know the value at which the units will be calculated. Recruiter said that the price will be decided in the next board meeting), 20,000 sign-on, no yearly bonus. Stocks vest 25% on a yearly basis(instead of quarterly after one year cliff like most companies). Also, although they aren’t public yet, they are giving RSUs instead of options, so unless you are employed at the company at the time it goes public, you lose out on all your RSUs (even the vested ones). No stock refreshers till 4 years unless there is a promotion. They also do not have a performance bonus although they are planning to put one in this year.
TC @Rivian = $240,000 (includes sign on)
One more thing with Rivian is if I chose to switch companies before it goes public, I’ll lose all the vested stock units too (very strange but that’s what the recruiter told me)
Considering EV space boom (Tesla and Nio), I’m not sure if I should lean towards Rivian.
Location: Bay Area
Current TC: $230,000
YOE: 8
