To all the NRIs - No the best ones don't want to leave India

Apr 20 24 Comments

I have seen many NRIs( and some Indians as well) say that India will always have mediocre leftover devs. You can't be more wrong. The perception that most of devs are mediocre is formed because earlier most of indian techies were those who couldn't relocate to US because they weren't good enough. Nowadays the Indian TCs have skyrocketed. All the luxuries and savings afforded by it are very high(Higher then anywhere in the world except US and it is catching up fastly). So most of my friends who are earning very good TCs have no plan to move out because they like the QOL here(Obviously there are some who want that little extra money or who prefer US lifestyle). On the contrary most of the folks moving to US are the WITCH/Tier3 college guys who couldn't make it in India as the competition is high here so mediocre talent is surely moving to US. But majority of good talent isn't going to US!!

QoL is not just about affording maids and luxuries. Money can’t buy you clean air, better infrastructure, traffic sense, open spaces, safety for women and cleanliness. Not everything in life is about money.

Unless you have actually ventured out and lived in a different country, you don’t really have any comparison at all. You are just going with status quo.

I have many friends and relatives who have lived outside. Also I have lived in west for a very small time. Didn't like it after the first month. So please don't blatantly judge anyone's choices 🙄. And I am surely not alone. There are many people returning back who share the same mindset so I don't understand what you are pointing to

Lots of copium in that post.

Tier 3 coll/witch is not mediocre talent. They may not have had the same exposure/opportunities. They have plenty of time to get better opportunities/exposure

The average developer in usa will have a significantly better life than average in India. Indian blinders are mostly faang type making over 20 lpa. However plenty of Indian developers exist making less than 10 lpa. For these, coming to the USA to make 100K or 150K makes a lot of sense

@asg3av Yes there are some people who think like you and prefer the US QOL(I have already mentioned it).But the blatant condescendence that the best move to US is what irks me. Even you seem to agree that the 40 LPA ones won't move as much as the 10 LPA one

Salaries for developers and inflation are skyrocketing everywhere
Only difference is in India you can save more and hire maids easily.
Also you are sad that people with less work are earning better in usa than you. My friend, don't be salty. (I also live in India and no plans for abroad).
Of course India don't have mediocre developers now.

Yes that's true for both India and US. Inflation is high everywhere. You seem to like the QOL in US right? Yes there are some folks who also prefer it. But majority of my friends like it near to Indian food and family with maid comfort

Less work lol? And no I don't care they earn more(80% more savings for 10 yrs. Would have mattered if I was not able to enjoy luxuries).Money is not just for saving and FIREing. And for me Indian quality of life is much better. I am only angry because people assume that best people want to move to US which is wrong
