NI is not as good as they used to be, but not a bad entry-level option. They used to get huge banners bragging about being rated a top workplace. Haven't for years (and it's not because of banner prices).
Indeed isn't an option. They're not hiring anyone out of school this year except for previous interns accepting return offers.
HEB/Favor, and Whole Foods are apparently decent, but won't be paying the same as tech companies.
GM is divesting their Austin tech center. And from all the people I've interviewed who are leaving, it's VERY top down from HQ.
PayPal is decent. Though it seemed pretty bad after the eBay PayPal split, but I imagine that's passed. It is a sattelite office with the most important things going on in San Jose.
Oracle has a fancy new office, but a culture closer to IBM than anything else on here.
Some smaller companies possibly worth checking out: OpCity, Foreflight (though not sure since Boeing acquisition), Offers.com (also not sure since ZDNet acquisition), CS DISCO (they are hiring like crazy).
Personally, I'd avoid BazaarVoice (never turned a profit; unclear since they went private again; run by clowns who got hit for anti-trust behavior and then insider trading after a massive 9 person stock dump when they got a heads-up about anti-trust) and RetailMeNot (literally never heard anything other than bad)
Oh, and avoid anywhere or get out asap that hires people from Trilogy alumn no questions asked (i.e. no interview). The sinker of countless companies in this town. They're not all rock stars. If a company ever talks about all the Trilogy people they have, _run_.
EDIT: I mistook the fact that it was Boeing, not GM, that bought Foreflight. I know every pre-sale is relieved it was a cash sale. Who wants Boeing stock, right now?
Being at a companyβs satellite offices can be a risky decision. If they make cuts to an organization, satellite campuses are always the first to go. Of course, they do transfer engineers on the one-sie two-sie scale - but there are overwhelming layoffs when satellite campuses close.
You probably want to work at a campus with more than 100 people just to even learn about the company/organization as well as learning technically.
