There have been a lot of questions about joining OCI, so I thought of posting this to give more info to someone who might have an offer and trying to decide.
There were layoffs across OCI-C (classic old cloud) and OCI (the bare metal cloud with huge presence in Seattle). There were some individuals who were laid off and then there were few teams that were altogether laid off along with their managers. There were some people who were just hired that were laid off. Some really good people where let go.
There was also an all hands after the lay-off and the management was really bad even trying to answer basic questions. They avoided a whole bunch of questions. Most people were really surprised that the management could be soo unprepared for the all hands.
The management lied out right about moving people to other places where there was requirement. Some teams are hiring and the people who were laid off weren’t considered for those positions. Some teams are now setting up interviews with people who were laid off. This is such a mess.
The future doesn’t look great. Many people on H-1 were laid off and there wasn’t even clear communication on when their H-1’s would be revoked. Some people didn’t receive their annual vesting and missed it by two or three months.
Some people who weren’t impacted have started preparing to find a better job outside because of the lack of clarity around what’s going to happen.
If you’re on H-1 it’s risky to join OCI. If you’re not on a visa, and open to taking risks, joining OCI should be fine.
Your hiring manager might call and try to play down things. But in reality, even their job isn’t safe in the longer term. Consider all risks before you join. You’ve been warned.

A layoff typically pays anywhere from 3 to 6 months salary. And my friend would land another job in 2 weeks.
