was in an uber pool. a white man enters with his 16 year old kid. I greet him and get back to my phone. He asks me what I do for a living. I told him that i worked at Amazon. He said and I quote "I know a lot of your people who work there".
The only thing for certain is you’re very sensitive. Try to get over yourself
Agreed. Why is everything racist nowadays?!? 😑
It was a compliment
This.
How's "your people" a compliment? it's demining.
I mean thats a fact, and its not racist to state facts. His tone with which he said, matters more though, and that's very subjective. It's also easy to think either way. Sometimes, in a restaurant my friends think the server is being racist, but to me he just seems grumpy, because I may have noticed him being inattentive and unfriendly to most others.
Sounds like you might just be unable to spot racism. Your friends got your back. To be more clear, you can be unfriendly to most and still be racist.
"it's not racist to state facts" you can't be more wrong about this. Most of the shitty things in history have been done by white people (fact), but you can't rub it into people's faces. It's just racist and rude.
It definitely is rude and a very 'informal' way to address a race. I wouldn't be surprised if this man is a racist in his life but just this sentence is not good enough to judge
Your people=your coworkers? But probably just racist
Your people= your race/color
Why are other people of my race, ‘my people’ ? Doesn’t sound great to me
Any chance he met nerds?
Very rare usage of classifying and using a term for people such as jocks or nerds or hippies. The usage for stereotyping them would be different, I guess.
Are you Indian or Chinese? I think this goes as a maybe. Depends on the tone.
Are you black? Then it is but any other race it's not
Asian? Middle Eastern? European? South American?
