I've been contacted via someone from a recruitment firm on behalf of Google. The role is UX Researcher, 12 month contract with extension.

Has anybody any experience with contracting for Google or other large tech firms? Is it worth it? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

  • Contrary to these opinions, I contracted at G and it was great, the pay was good and I had full benefits, you still get free food too, wlb was great and it helped me get other roles

Don't leave a FTE position for a contract gig. Even if your current TC is low, your benefits usually are worth 25-30% of your package.

As others have said, look for another full time position.

  • Contractors at FAANG are second class citizens. Better to be a FTE, even if it's non-FAANG

    • Look for another FTE role. Google contract usually comes with fixed billing

The role is 12 months initially, and is facilitated through an intermediary. They handle pay which is twice monthly.
