Google Rescinds Offers to Thousands of Contract Workers

"This came after weeks of uncertainty as Google repeatedly postponed their start dates during which time they were not paid by Google or the staffing agencies.

Some of the would-be contractors left stable, full-time jobs once they received an employment offer at Google and are now searching for work in a difficult labor market."

What the FUCK, Google.

    • There’s no way you’re that clueless 6feet6inch lmao

      1) “google is going through a tough time” and “I feel bad for contractors I know they will be fine” -

who do you think is more fine? The trillion dollar company or contractors who just lost their job

      2) contract agencies work with employers. They don’t work with candidates and ensure they find a job. So no, when they get laid off, it’s not like their contracting agencies just says don’t worry John we have 20 other jobs for and ensure you’ll get a job

      3) why do you think contractors are even contractors? You think they don’t want a FT job? Many are contractors because they don’t have a choice and need a job. Contract roles typically have lower hiring bars - ie struggle to find FT

“It’s not that they are out of a job” lol.

Googlers, any rumors of FTE layoffs coming up yet? This is a typical step on that path, but higher levels inevitably leak it to you first.

  • I’m pretty capitalistic but at will employment the way it’s written gives employers too much power

Google doesn’t need more contractors, so they reduce their ask to the contracting companies. It’s up to the contracting companies to employ them or not. Google didn’t rescind any offers
