i have always been curious to know whats the rich people doing with their dough ? Are they all celebrating in cancun and buying villas in Carribean. ? what is their lifestyle ?

i dont want to see influencers on instagram coz that shit is made up to sell products. im interested in more real life examples ? are they getting massages 24/7 ? are they spending energy in gym ? are they buying one home after another ? into collectibles ?

Mostly just invest. Buy some toys. Lots of charity events. Lots of partying under the radar. What specifically do you want to know. In my friend group the joke is you arent really rich until the giving pledge starts inviting you to events.

If you want to invest to be rich beating inflation isnt the goal, invest in index funds or a robo investor.

Pretty accurate answer IMO, based on the high 8 to barely 10 digit NW people I've seen.

Aside from running their main business, they often do angel investing and buying real estate and collector stuff.

Charity parties are big. Great way to reduce the tax bill.

Other than that it's based on personal interest. Everyone wants nice houses but the rest varies.

I think the inflation independent definition of rich is a net worth that exceeds what is generally possible to obtain through employment, and which is sufficient wealth to own a nationally recognized businesses that materially impact the economy.

"Upper middle class" or "professional class" is the upper end of what you can achieve by employment in the highest paying jobs. Historically doctors and lawyers and small and medium business executives, but now including a few engineers (principals and above).

These days if you rise through employment to a director or "level ten" (in Amazon terms) VP position you can easily amass tens of millions in net worth. 50 mil is easily achievable if you are very successful in your employment, you can get promoted to the level.

But you really need to be a founder or exec of a top company to break the 100mil mark, so I would say the lower end of upper class starts somewhere around 100mil in net worth and you need a billion at least to be solidly upper class (enough money to own a household brand name business).

This number changes with inflation and with structural changes in the economy.

  • You have to define rich. There are levels of rich like 5-10m, 20-40m, over 200m, etc. There is also the relationship to the wealth that dictates a lot of the interests; are you self made, parent made, old money, new money etc.
