Hey Blind, Moved to LA and found there is no way to get somewhere without a car. What are some best options? Office is around 10 mins walk, so looking for something to get somewhere to surf/snowboard and just riding fon fun. thx UPD: Im on my o1 visa, so don’t know how’s going after and that’s the reason why Im so sceptical about owning car. finance side: 150k base salary + making another $140-160k after-tax money on a side gig. monthly spending for two: - 4k rent + bills - 1k food - 2k coffee/eating outside
I got a series 4, 2k down and 550 pm. Its a great car to drive!
That’s lit! Why did you choose this one among others?
Was getting a good deal! The car msrp is 52k and boy it runs like a beast.
Leasing is never the best option, especially for a car with low residual value at end of term
I’m on a O1, so not sure where will I be after 3 years
Then buy a 10k-15k cash car. You can find a lot of luxury used vehicles for that budget. You're wasting money up front with a lease especially with low residual.

Keeping blind tradition alive , here you go - don't do it , get a second hand cheap car for 10k and invest everything else so that you can FIRE at 40
Hehe I’m somewhat in the middle of this mindset. From my pov, there is no need in extra spending from one side, but I don’t wanna live in some shit for the best years of my life. And still I can max 401, ira, hsa and invest some money
You sound like you have unrealistic standards. If the car isn't making you money you should spend 5-10K maxed on a nice, reliable used car. I don't think you have any chance of FIRE cause it sounds like you've already let lifestyle inflation control you.
Try ANY electric car and you would never go back to gas engines. Its nimble, very low maintenance, and its perfect for quick commutes around the city. If you have a place to charge, its an obvious choice.
Yeah, I’m thinking about it, but the boy inside me wanna make this skrt shit in a road, you know
Thats a big budget. if you want a hauler for surf / snow you could go cheaper with a Rav4 or CRV, or higher end with an Audi Q5. For big bear/mammoth you'll want 4x4/AWD. Any Subaru would do the trick but not my cup of tea, although very popular for the surf snow crowd. I have a Tundra, which I highly recommend for the utility of the bed for surfboards and snowboards etc. But if you care about gas it sucks.
I was thinking about Tundra as a second car just to get to mountains. Did you get a new one or purchased used? How is it from the maintenance perspective?
Cringe. I can get to those places in a rwd sports car
FYI, leasing car is a dumb financial thing to do.
That's true and if you aren't wealthy you should just buy something cheap. But honestly most wealthy people get bored of their car after a few years and want to swap them out, a lease can be great for that.
You’ve clearly never browsed leasehackers
How much will your payment, insurance, and gas/charging/maintenance be a month in total? Since you live so close to work, it seems like you would spend less than just the payment on Uber/Lyft.
Yeah, Uber is just fine, but can’t imagine two people with two snow/surfboards and shit tones of stuff going to a spot on Uber
Why on Earth would you lease a depreciating asset? 🤦🏻♂️ Buy pre-owned, invest the difference in ETFs.
Man, I’m investing like 55% of my income. $6-8k won’t make any difference
Tesla
Idnk. S model would be more than that, isn’t it?
