i have seen some people who have MBA or MIS will not put their valueable degrees after their name but PMP once they earn it, which is bit non-sensical. if you value that $500 certificate over your degree then you must seriously rethink your life. Are you going to let recruiters decide if your degree is worthless? Why let recruiters decide what’s your worth? #pmp #mba #mis #MS
In reality, people do both. MIS after the name, not as much. I feel like you have very strong personal agenda against the PMP credential so there is no point in explaining more
Can't speak for a MIS, but...an MBA is about 90% useless in the grand scheme of things for anything but the network, unless you're in marketing or finance. Only about 10% of what you learn in an MBA is actually applicable to a job outside of those fields. If you're just looking to gain relevant knowledge vs the MBA network, then you're generally going to be much better served by a certificate in a relevant field, but I digress. A PMP, on the other hand, if you're in a field that can actually utilize it, is substantially more valuable in your day to day work than an MBA. In addition, if you're dealing with old school hiring managers or pretty much anything related to the government, a PMP is a very valuable certification to have. Now, that's not to say the PMP is worthwhile in and of itself, as that's a whole 'nother topic, but there are plenty of scenarios where it is indeed more beneficial than an MBA from a career perspective. Edit: it's been about a decade since I got both my MBA and PMP and I've gotten a firsthand look at how the two have impacted my career, both as a wage earner and as a small business owner. The PMP has been hands down more valuable on the day job side of things, while the MBA has been only marginally useful on the side gig side of things and not at all for the day job.
How do you know that? I know many successful mba grads. Maybe you did it online? Mba >> 10pmp like cert Pmp is like a Coursera class , just something to put on your LinkedIn page really, no particular knowledge or skill to apply in life
I passed my PMP exam 3 days ago, and I’ll be finishing my MS in the summer. I’ll put both after my name for a while. I had to study very damn hard for both.
Hey . What is your way of preparation ?
I dont have a PMP but I can tell you I dont use most of the stuff I learned from my Bachelors of Computer Science day to day. If a PMP actually helps someone do Project Manager stuff competently then good for them. Many degrees today are just worth less money sinks intended to generate debt for stupid people and revenue for government backed institutions.
PMP material will definitely make you better at managing projects and tasks Now whether you go ahead and get the certification , it’s on you. Getting certification would mean you need to go they plenty of PMP questions ( like people do leetcode )
I have seen a lot of PMs without a PMP that are quite incompetent. I haven’t met a PMP who didn’t take care of their shit. This is only my experience though, I can see how my statement sounds anecdotal and ridiculous. Nevertheless I thought I’d share.
Same here With PMP , you get introduced to lot of things that you wouldn’t have bought of , and hence hard to not pay attention when you work in the real world
Well, depending on where you get your MBA (or masters), the degrees could hold lesser value compared to a PMP certification imo.
