My boss found out I’m Jewish 😱 what do I do.
Can we add "bad manager" to the list? My TC is decent for my location but not comparable to FAANG and my first reason for planning an exit is a bad manager. TC is second though so it's still a pretty big motivator.
Unfortunately can’t edit poll after its made :(. I’ve been lucky to have really good managers along the way. It’s usually other people who want to become managers where the issues stem in terms of bad coworkers for me.
Seems like you could just pick "company/coworker", with this being the most common coworker driving someone out
I know a lot of people are not switching because they don’t know how much more they could be making. Also a lot of people don’t make the effort to switch because they are calculating the increased pay wrong. Most people compare by percentage increase from old to new job. Better way to compare is subtracting your monthly expenses before comparing. This is your disposable income. A 10% increase in TC may translate to 50% more in disposable income. This is a big difference.
Bad manager, bad company, bad project that I got reorged too, more TC
CEO/majority owner dissolved the product department and moved PMs and Design under engineering. Torpedoed a great product before GA because of fear, and refusal to see his own advantage over existing competitors. They had senior designers doing content changes on the website to keep them busy for lack of product work. TC increase and eliminating commute by car didn’t hurt either.
I wonder if other people have noticed that they got bored of their team/product after certain numbers and then just wanted to do something else? Not necessarily that something else was more exciting ... But the current thing became less exciting over time.
Can you add “To boomerang” to this?
Unfortunately can’t edit once posted! Pretty unfortunate we have to boomerang now a days to get more tc. They don’t see the value in you while you’re there
I’d put this under “more TC”
I grew up in a poor family; where I couldn't fulfill most of my wishes and simple things like flying in a plane one day seemed unreal. Sadly this created a huge bias for money in my psyche and I have to think a lot before making any moderate expenditure. I do care about the company and work, but nothing that a fat TC can't beat. :/
You and I are in the same boat. I'm planning to visit my family in a few weeks and I've been pushing off buying flights because I might be able to save $40. I shouldn't be worrying about the cost of the flights as a whole let alone $40. I'll have to break this eventually but I'm not sure when or if it'll happen.
Same here. Even deciding to spend $1k on computer parts is taking days of planning.
more TC, shit manager, job has no purpose
People joining now at a lower level get way more then I get at a higher level just because its my first job out of college and everything is based on percentage of your base when you joined.
Yep, unless you are consistently a top 10% performer your TC will fall behind the market over the years. Gotta jump around every 4 years to get that sweet on hire stock.
If you get 10% you will still fall behind. 60: 116 61: 128 My friend joined at 61 her is 140.
I quit my last company and joined Zymergen because my boss was a creep, and I had no avenues for promotion to a different team
Wanna hear this story 🍿
please more details, especially on the creep part
