Visiting a doctor, doing lab tests, and getting prescriptions. Why does it cost so much? I am not complaining, but I think healthcare companies, health insurance, and pharamacetical companies charge way too much. My parents don’t go to the doctors because lab test or one visit costs $100+ do anyone of you feel the same way? is there a reason why we gdt charged a lot?
‘Murica bro! Freedom!
In the healthcare industry there’s 15 people doing paperwork for every 1 doctor and everyone needs to get paid. Bernie Sanders wants to lower the incentive for doctors to enter the industry and double the amount of people doing paperwork
Those 15 people don’t get paid as much.
Why pay 15 people when 5 people are more efficient? The point is that the industry is rife with excessive regulation. Objectively when you look at things such as lasik eye surgery the costs drop dramatically when it’s either not covered by insurance or heavily regulated.
The healthcare system in the US is f’ed up and broken. Medical providers like to overcharge for procedures causing insurance premiums to skyrocket.
Because American healthcare is for-profit. It is a social good in other countries.
You sound like you’re complaining...and why shouldn’t you complain? This is the most expensive healthcare system in the world, because everyone is trying to make a profit. Providers, insurers, drug companies, device manufacturers - the system is designed and maintained for their interests, not yours. Free enterprise rules America.
I didn’t want to complain because I know there are people that pay for medicines/doc visits more than me. Yes, it’s not right. Isn’t having a good health crucial to living a good life? Isn’t there a way to change the system somehow thru tech?
Ya fuck that. Thats why my sister & wife both are doctors. If you can’t beat em, join em.
Only if you don't have insurance
With a modern high-deductible plan - even a good one - when you really need it, you will pay a lot. Child birth, pediatrician visits, anything that takes you out of network accidentally, any chronic condition, any meds that aren’t generic. Co-pay, deductible, and out-of-pocket max are terms unknown in most countries’ health care systems.
yeah that’s thanks to obamacare. tech companies used to have “cadillac” plans that covered everything. no questions asked. but obama changed that
There are insurances like Kaiser where copay is really low, even for the lab test(most of them are free). If you are worried about near term major healthcare expense go with Kaiser Permanente.
Amazon added Kaiser recently, and I was curious. Maybe I’ll look more closely this year.
Could tech bring a change in these costs?
