Fuck whiteboard interviews

…if I practiced one LC question for every time I read this, I’d have every single highest TC offer in the industry. Every single time I read this, it’s either some dope working in some “non-tech” company in some city no one ever willingly goes to or some Principal engineer whose been at their company since the Clinton administration.

People have a very skewed perspective of what being a good software engineer means. Just because you have been writing Object Oriented “beautiful” code for 20 years doesn’t mean you have been writing the most optimized code or something that can scale to tens of millions of users which some of these companies need to. Also, not every one is out here Googling code blocks and pasting them together. The normalization of incompetency is staggering.

“But, dude I just use a library.” - Yeah, those libraries weren’t blessed to us by God. Someone actually wrote those libraries and these companies are probably looking for people who can do that.

“I work at a FAANG and I just make small changes in CSS everyday” - Doesn’t mean every single engineer is just doing that.

Programming is literally the easiest field to enter. Just pick up a laptop, take a Python course and bam you are qualified enough to call yourself a programmer. Try becoming a Lawyer or a Doctor on the other hand - going to school for years, getting a license, slaving away for years working long hours until one day you make the same as some 24 year old SDE 2.

On the other hand, you got to do some standard 100 questions (takes like 4 weeks at max) and you’re well equipped to successfully interview in any company a level below FAANG immediately! How amazing is that!

LC is like Working out - no one actually likes it, but doing it means you have discipline, you can do tough boring stuff for long durations of time, the benefits of which are not immediately apparent. If those are not the most important characteristics of a good Software Engineer, then what are? #software #interviews #engineering #tech
