Hello, i'm really confused now,
I'm in a process after two screening interviews with two developers and spoke with the contractor company that hires for Microsoft, They said they would pay me $57/hour, and i said i would ask for $70 if there is a chance and prefer 6 months.

so my question is:
Should i accept to be a contractor with Microsoft with this vendor, for this range. and start my first FAANG position as Front End Engineer react js.

Or i should keep increasing my skills self taught.
and just apply again for FAANG and find more recruiters
and ask for a higher salary?

now i'm a front end, i make $38 only, i know it's small, but bcz i was new in the field, and didn't know how to negotiate that time lol, so i don't want to make same mistake

Thanks for taking a look into my question

  • Try for full time roles only as in long run you will gain more and will have stability. Start preparing for FT rather then contract.

What are cons of Contract role?

    • Career growth is biggest cons, I have seen my friends climb the corporate ladder in terms of position while I was busy working as a contractor (I did work for 5 years as a contractor of total 10 years of work experience) So my two cents will be to do leedcoding and get educative.io subscription and start preparing for FT roles.

If you don’t have another offer from a company you like better, take the contract. You can learn about Microsoft, expand your network, and learn where you should focus your efforts. Then you can either see about interviewing and converting to full time in that group or trying for another position when your contract is up, which should be a good amount of time for you to gain more experience.

That's an amazing help, Thanks for your details.
What else could you advice me in terms of salary, should i be satisfied for $70 if they accept or at least $65?
and is it fine to just go ahead and work with contract for 6-12 months, and just be patient all that long without benefits or insurance for that long time?

Your contract company should offer some benefits/medical. It may not be the best, but they usually do.

As far as rate goes, I don’t know the current rates also, it’s been a while since I’ve worked with contract companies, but in Redmond they would usually take about 28-35% of your billing rate (what they bill the company), some can take more, so keep that in mind. Usually when you’re negotiating your rate, they will go back to Microsoft and ask for a higher rate so they can keep their %. If they don’t receive approval, they will try to negotiate to keep you lower and not eat into their mark up. They do have some room to negotiate even if Microsoft doesn’t change the billing rate, but it also depends on how much Microsoft wants you and how hard it has been for them to fill the position.
