Is IP a good choice without tech background?

I’m currently deciding whether to go to law school and study IP law.
I don’t have tech background, and am not willing to do tech IP.

But will it be worth it money-wise and career-wise??

Are there currently enough job openings in this path?
What do you think are the prospects?

worst case you jump into anything that says “privacy”. All loser lawyers tend to go to that space and then hire lawyers as well. Nobody can teach these idiots that you don’t need a JD but experience.

I meant areas I could do with JD specializing in IP other than tech industry.
Are there other possible areas in IP that is worth money and effort into law school?

  • You could do pharma IP or soft IP (trademarks, copyright) but both pay less than tech. Pharma pays more than soft IP.

In my experience, Tech Trans is the practice group that gets the most exit opportunities to tech companies. There are tons of IP litigators in the Bay.

There is also a difference between BioTech, Software, and Hardware IP. In all three litigation makes more money but is really hard to be successful in. Most ppl go into transactions/prosecution now days and in the law firm side prosecution is largely commoditized so it's also hard to make money.

Not sure what you mean by IP but not tech IP. Do you mean specifically copyright and trademark? If so, just FYI many of the better jobs in those areas will be for tech companies.
