been at AWS Sea for 4 years as sde II. is it worth leaving for nvidia santa clara for senior sde role?
Irrespective of team etc. I would recommend to stay put. Going from AWS to an enterprise company is not a great move unless it is giving you something unique.
AWS is not enterprise?
It’s a cloud ☁️.
my friends are happy there
most likely you are hired for geforce now? we are just getting started and it would be lot of learning and growth opportunities. wlb is sure better then Amazon. nvidia software guys are decent in system software and we are making progress in cloud 😊.
FWIW, few years down the line NVIDIA won’t just be a h/w company. Consider other aspects of the offer as well, like moving to SF Bayarea, future plans, TC growth over years, ease of switching companies if NVIDIA doesn’t workout, etc.
Don’t do it. They have 0 clue about cloud. Source: used to work there
I would recommend trying it, you are still young! Go experiment. If it’s for GeForce now I would recommend it as it’s still in infancy! A lot of scope for improvement, and would be a great project to show in your resume. If you don’t like it leave it, it’s not the last company in the Bay Area. There are some other teams for cloud, not sure though. Ask the HR what team
The project is cloud like but not cloud because even if they can build cloud they wouldn’t unless they want to destroy their relations with AWS and Azure. Moving to Bay Area has that advantage.
Get some more clarity about the team from HR. Nvidia is not trying to compete with AWS or Azure I believe. GeForce Now is for their gaming service.
Nvidia is not hw company. Way more folks in sw and likely even cloud. Lots of cloud work outside of Geforce Now as well.
Unclear what you are smoking. For better or worse, NVIDIA is "the" definition of an old school hardware company bruh.
Disagree. Still in mid pivot. Nv isn’t an easy play to work at fwiw. There can be politics but it’s generally team dependent and by leader.
Do not go down to the valley for a job at NVIDIA. Plenty of tech offices around Seattle so there's not a necessity to move these days.
TC ?
No offer yet. Just heard they want to make an offer. Nvidia is a hw company so having second thoughts
Which team ? Like system software ?
