Hi I have an interview soon with Riot in esports partnerships, basically working with brands as they activate and sponsor different esports tournaments and events. I’m a big gamer myself so working there has always been dream (even though they said it’s not a requirement for this particular position).
I was wondering:
1) If any Rioters have experience working on/with the esports team? Can you speak to the experience? Managers? How they treat women/minorities?
2) If anyone has an idea what compensation is like. I currently make $110k in my current position and wondering if that’s in line with what that team makes. Glassdoor put it at around $97k but it’s Glassdoor so not very reliable.
3)What growth is like? Currently interested in getting a part-time or online grad degree (MBA or MA) in Marketing so I would like to be able to utilize what I learn on the job and eventually get a promotion.
I do enjoy my current job and actually just received a promotion. My current job has a great culture as well so even though I love gaming and love Riot I want to make sure I am making the right decision if I did pursue this opportunity. I wouldn’t be looking to leave if it wasn’t Riot.
Any insights anyone can provide (even if not necessarily answering my direct qs) would be very much appreciated!

For esports do you know if the role is global or North America (LCS)? Both teams are good but could get a little more specific. Given bad press ~3 years ago there are a lot of programs around women and minority advancement. Just this week there was a really cool series of internal panels featuring different women at riot talking about their experiences and their advice. I am a white dude so I can’t actually speak to the experience, but you should bring it up in your interviews. People will be candid. If it’s for global esports partnerships that group is run by an absolute bad ass woman. I like the NA biz dev guy a lot too.
Did they say what level it is? Then can advise on comp. 110 is probably very doable unless you’re going for a very junior role.
The future of esports is huge and the brands we’re getting involved with are awesome. It could be a very cool time to be there.
That is great to hear about internal panels and them actively trying to improve culture though!
I have prior experience with esports and gaming working with various media companies. I also keep up with what’s going on in the industry too so lots to talk about in my interview even though they said being a gamer isn’t required for the position.
