Is the MS Defender team (endpoint) still growing or is it fairly mature with most low-mid level problems already solved?

How siloed is the org? Do security researchers and data scientists collaborate and work together or is it siloed?

  • I'm in the defender org as a researcher. The defender org overall is definitely still growing, considerably. But the older teams much less so. My team for example has not had any openings or new joiners in a couple years.

To your other question, it's a little hard to answer for everyone as the research focused teams have a lot of diversity in how they work, but I'm my experience research and data science work together pretty regularly and if you're interested you can definitely jump in some of the projects that would give more of that collaboration.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

@chfd83 - Microsoft stance as a whole company is that return to office is up to manager discretion. We have a portal where you can select up to 50% remote and I think that is just auto approved, and more than 50% the only thing that happens is you no longer have a reserved desk at the office. If you are moving to a different city or something then there's some extra HR steps because they will have to change your tax reporting but that only applies if you were already a Microsoft employee and moving.
So all that to say that it depends on the individual team but in defender org most teams are very open to remote.
