I’m wondering if there are high paying jobs out there for MEs; we hear about CS/CE mostly here. I see that FB, Apple, Google, Amazon do hire us. Anyone know what TC can be expected?

Currently 230k TC as IC, close to the max without being in management; which for Portland goes pretty far. I do have/use EE/CS skills, not just vanilla ME.

Nope, those are my annual compensation numbers, not some ambiguous, poorly defined TC. My W2 Gross Income is $450k for 2017 and I expect a bump for 2018. I have a BS in ME from CA state university. The kind of work I perform and skill set I apply are broad. Be more specific. If I had to say what sets me apart from my peers with similar experience/credentials is that I never say no to any of my management requests - I find a way to make their request happen whether that means applying scripting knowledge to clean up data and analyze a large dataset to sift for meaningful information or building a technical fixture from scratch using locally sourced hardware within 48 hrs, or traveling to Asia to identify a solution for a prototype build event on 24 hrs notice, or running an FEA to help explain best design for a particular part, or attach strain gages & accelerometers for vibration and shock testing. I design parts in CAD and drive vendors to make my parts. When I can’t provide something I build a relationship across organizations that enable me to call upon someone else and their skill set to accomplish the task. Hope that helps.

I recently referred a friend in PD. His TC 330k (150k/150k RSU/30k Sign On as ICT3. He had a MS degree and 6 yoe and aggressively negotiated.

You can definitely make much more at Apple.

Seems that I’d have to aim for a high ICT4 or 5 to get something better than my current TC, especially after cost of living adjustment. I am in touch with an Apple recruiter, we will see what happens.

Apple PD mechanical engineers can definitely make 330k or even 400k TC for an ICT4/5

Are you using your mechanical engineering skills in current job like FEA, design related things etc.. or is it more geared towards mfg.? That is an important question to answer..

Then you should have no issues getting into MSFT, AAPL etc. They value these skillset for consumer hardware product development. They will take your TC into account and offer you better if you clear their interview for senior level. I have given some mechanical interview for which I sucked because I didn't use my skills in job..
