I’m in my last year of graduate school and am trying to decide between offers from Citi in NYC and State Street in Boston. Compensation is similar and I think long term I want to be a quant at a hedge fund. My question is which offer would be better in the long run for me. I’m conflicted because I think Citi has the better name and is in NYC, but is a sell side quant role whereas State Street is buy side. Would it be easier to move from State Street to a hedge fund because its buy side even though it has a worse name than Citi?
Just FYI state street has had a lot of layoffs recently ..and I believe a lot more to come mostly in IT.
