Hi all
I'm turning 31 soon, and my wife is 30.5 right now.
Both of us are h1b Indians so there is no hope for a GC in this country.
We're considering applying for a Canada PR via Express Entry and moving there.
It looks like there are a few challenges here.
- How bad are we from an age perspective to apply right now?
- Do we need PNP?
- Will it help if my wife applies and Iatch on to her application?
- IELTS centers seem closed in California, how do we deal with this? More waiting means more points lost because of the age factor.
- If I get an internal Job offer from Amazon Vancouver, will that give a boost?

Pleas help, I'm massively stuck trying to find answers..

what are the real motivations behind moving to Canada other than securing PR ? The opinion that number of jobs are limited and less than India and the US is worrisome factor

vudj and fOJW15 you’re both crazy. All three have unique benefits - in the us opportunity and pay are great but COL and gov benefits suck, in India COL is nothing and opportunity is good but education, safety, and healthcare not good. Canada has bad opportunity and COL but benefits and politics are great

  • Being 31 almost kills your chance of going through normal EE given how high current score is for FSW stream.

Ask Amazon to relocate you to Vancouver then apply under BCPNP - Tech Pilot program, Amazon sponsors this.

  • It's best to move to Canada if you have a job offer from a global company. Canada is a small country with limited opportunities. Competition for full time jobs is intense. Unlike US, Canada does not have a big IT contracting industry. You need to be very careful before moving to Canada. Searching for jobs after entering Canada is risky and not recommended.

    • Also be prepared to take a 50 percent pay cut. Sounds extreme but considering that fang salaries for new grads are around 200k usd, while new grad pay in Canada is 90k cad if you're lucky, the pay difference can sometimes be pretty serious. Not to mention, cost of living is pretty much the same despite lower salaries.

This is why plenty of young Canadian grads all end up in the bay, and very few folks go the other way to Canada

Almost pointless to live in Canada for an Indian then since Indian new grad salaries can be up to 4M rupees per annum (72k CAD)

Is there a minimum amount of time you need to work in Amazon before you can apply for PNP?

No, started the Amazon PR process after 1 month, gathered docs and submitted formal application after 4 months. Got PR in about 15 months after started working for Amazon in Vancouver (including 3 months IRCC not working/WFH).
