Definitely not true, we've got to take out the stigma of being a male #EA #maleEAsmatter

  • Hmm I've also met many EAs along my career, including at client sites, but I've actually never met a male EA before. I'm sure it's possible, but obviously not as common as female EA.

    • Not sure, I guess sexism and perceptions out there are still somewhat old school for gigs like this, like my friend who is a male nurse getting teased all the time since nursing is admittedly female-dominated profession. Also there are way more male executives than female, and those guys seem to prefer female EAs in general

Another thing which might not be good to say, but I wouldn't feel comfortable being in that role since I feel at least a little bit competitive with other males. I don't really feel competitive with females, so maybe if the executive was female I would feel more comfortable. Or maybe I would be fine being in that role if I was very young and the executive was quite old, in which case I would also not feel as competitive. I'm not sure if it's sexist to feel this way - or maybe it's unwise to feel this way in the beginning, but I don't know if I can do anything about it. It just seems ingrained to me, I don't show it out at work, only when I do sports. At least I don't think I'm hurting anyone.
It seems, something like that could be construed as sexist because if I only feel competitive with males you might think that I don't respect females, but I would argue against that. I wouldn't feel competitive towards a very strong AI as well, doesn't mean I think that strong AI isn't performing better than me. And certainly I don't think women can't peform better than me.

Would love to get his take on why there are so few men in his position!

  • As a male EA, it is possible to become one. It takes a right working environment and supportive team
