I'm fed up of people claiming that there are no tests in the USA for Coronavirus. Here are a few locations. Go to their respective websites for details on how you doctor or provider needs to collect the swabs and send the samples to the labs.

This page keeps getting updated as more labs come online:

  • Completely wrong. I am in CA and my daughter is sick - a girl in her class was just diagnosed with covid. I called today and CANNOT get tested. They said right now ONLY high risk patients can get tested.

    Your post is bullshit.

I think they are just more saying testing is still ramping up / below ideal and sharing their experience. E.g. maybe that capacity isn't fully available/accessible yet, and we still are rationing testing to symptomatic vs also exposed (e.g. not detecting those still incubating... And I've heard of some with symptoms that haven't had testing available). Ideally we continue to get closer to S Korea with capacity that even more people get tested to cast a wider net to detect those still early in progression.... And also to allow those that are concerned (contact or symptoms) to get tested to reduce anxieties there.

    • I’m saying that your post makes a false claim on how testing is available, but the reality is that it is not. It’s only available to a certain small demographic. Case in point, because my daughter is low risk, we can’t get her tested, despite the fact that her classmate tested positive.

If I have to battle and start calling multiple doctors to finally find someone who can get us a test, that’s further proof that it’s not readily available.

Which part are you not able to believe? Are you questioning the likes of UCLA, Stanford, Johns Hopkins and saying that they are lying?

The 10% means that 10% of the capacity is used so far and/or reported to the CDC. CDC is no longer tracking every case, but letting the states volunteer the statistics.

The legends on the CDC table also indicate what's excluded and the data lag. It also isn't showing data from private/corporate labs such as Stanford or Johns Hopkins, or LabCorp.

Most of the private capacity numbers I hear are X now, up to Y in a few weeks.

In any regards - we're definitely playing catch up with testing. Glad to see the increases test capacity reported - but until we see adequate testing picking up we're still flying without as much info as needed. (And we've heard before that testing was ready and millions available... And that was a false start or misleading statement)

Agree with the last part. PCR testing is error prone and time-consuming. You could the test right and still get false negatives. CDC wasted time trying to get the tests perfect instead of giving up and letting all universities and labs come up with their own tests. That would have caused inconsistency in the reliability of the tests too. Hindsight is 20-20. CDC needs to do "fire-drill" periodically to stay sharp, I guess.

I don't think this will be as bad as 3% death rate, but the focus should be on the cure or vaccination.
