I currently work in a mssp as a security analyst 2. I was originally hired as a security analyst 1 in 2021 and got offered 50k on the spot after my final interview and the guy that talked to me wasn't HR. I kind of stupidly accepted on the spot which was lower than my internship before I accepted the position. I got promoted to security analyst 2 around 10months later after I talked to the manager that I was underpaid. The national average for security analyst 2 seems like it's around 80k to 85k. How do u guys suggest I approach the manager about my salary? On Glassdoor it looks like our intern that worked for us for months got paid about same as I did when I was security analyst 1. I work remote in DC. #cybersecurity #salary #

The best way to negotiate is to have another offer. You don't have much bargaining power without another job offer in my opinion.

how long ago was your promotion to sec analyst 2 ? it seems getting promoted again is the only way to get any significant salary rise. If you are keen on staying at this company, it might be better to hold off on mentioning an external offer . That may make your working relation awkward. Like Datadog / DogGonTird mentioned, perhaps ask for more responsibilities and get to the next level and also mention your market salary data and if that does not seem to go anywhere for sometime, I might bring up the external offer.

If money is important to you, you should leave. With two YoE, you should be 100k+ with a good benefits package.

You need to bring to the table what you have done for your team. Also note what the next level is and how you are doing those items now.
