Hacking a Tesla car, same as after market upgrades for other cars?

Just read an article (below) about Tesla fighting back against companies who’ve been circumventing Tesla acceleration upgrades. As a traditional car enthusiast it sounds like an aftermarket upgrade versus dealing direct. Why is it that a Tesla would be any different? Is this more like piracy when it comes to technology versus hardware upgrades? Feels a lot like the Apple closed loop to me. What’s everybody think?

Software defined feature is still a feature. Hacking it without paying will not be allowed. It’s surprising that someone who works at amazon can’t understand this.

I agree, it should be the same as traditional aftermarket upgrades. Tesla just taking advantage of their clueless fans again

Tesla has been against the Right to Repair for years. Its just like Apple's greedy model. I'm all for modding hardware and software, understanding of course that it could void the warranty or other manufacturer support.

One exception I can think of is google phones allowing their bootloaders to be unlocked.
