Hi all - I’m looking to make the career change to software engineer and since I didn’t study CS I was looking into Coding Bootcamps. Is there anyone here that knows of one that they personally took & would recommend? I know HackReactor and General Assembly are very popular. Please let me know if you have any thoughts here. Thanks!!!

I recommend self taught route or take classes in community college since you’re already in tech. Coding Bootcamps are no good and waste of money

12 weeks at hack reactor got me to where I can start a job. If self studying takes 6 months, then the 3 additional months of pay would have already been worth it imo.

I probably wouldn’t have the knowledge or direction to be self taught so even 6 months might have been a stretch. My friends were mostly in hardware and other fields at the time and not tech.

But I was unemployed at the time, so my math may be different from yours.

Either way, getting into coding was 100% worth it, best of luck!

  • I did general assembly and was Mathematics undergrad. It taught what was necessary to get a career started, but boot camps are expensive, so if you don’t mind the cost then have at it. I recommend trying to self-study first with some Udemy bootcamps though and if you want more structure, then decide on the bootcamp. Redfin is right though, if you already have your foot in the door at tech, it’s not really a best choice to do a bootcamp
