Why does levels.fyi say 253k for Amazon L5 SDE 2 while I see Amazon L5 offers on blind go way above, up to 350k and sometimes even more?

  • you can click into it and see the data points of actual TC of each one. I think the old TCs drag the average down

Because those are top out of band offers. And those people come here to post on Blind to show off because those offers are rare.

Amazon lowballs as the first offer. The comp is very much a bimodal distribution for each level. Lots of people at the top and bottom of the band. Few in the middle.

Part of the whole “hire and develop THE BEST” so it’s up or out culture.

Because not everybody gets top offers. Most people get average offers. You know, like the name indicates.

  • Actually it’s just because not enough time has passed since Amazon changed their pay bands. I got a 370k L5 offer and reported it on levels.fyi a few days ago. It’s going to take a year or two for the old data to expire out imo.

Let’s also mention some bozos are still getting lowballed into the old pay bands.
