Curious what the culture is like at Opendoor, specifically for PM org. Actively interviewing there, very excited about the space, but concerned about the culture (looking for lean and nimble team environment, flat org)

bummer to hear this from someone who doesn’t even work there ^ i’ve been a pm there for the last year. super impressed by the mission driven culture and caliber of pms and pm leadership. depends on your org of course but I like mine a lot. some growing pains (like every company) and we are trying to recover from the big layoffs and ramp up engineering a lot. have done a few acqui hires recently (public news). i’m very happy and can see myself here for a while!

What was the reason for the layoff? That's super concerning for anyone looking to join

Heard people are overworked. Also leadership is now from wall street (so they bring that culture). Also last year in a heartbeat, they fired 35% people. Lastly zillow’s entry is kicking their ass

As long as you have job there man, I am happy. But all I can say, keep your eyes open. Real estate is tough business and thus Opendoors and Zillows of the world fire 35%, 25% people in a heartbeat. There are better options outside

  • Really engaged and kind PMs from what I’ve seen. Flatter org than other companies.
