It’s been with some amusement that I have been reading the increasing number of “Amazon is bad” stories on Blind.
I actually used to work at Amazon for quite a few years (till a couple of years ago) - and I had stints in multiple teams across AWS and Alexa. 2 of the best managers that I have ever worked with in my entire career were in Amazon.
Never heard about anyone getting pip’ed either. I can think of exactly one person that suddenly disappeared - which we suspected was a pip. But, I think most people on the team agreed that it was deserved.
Not to say that everything was peachy. I was in a team with a shit upper management chain and was quite dysfunctional. I left the team in a few months - which unlike other companies, you can do whenever you please, so long as the other manager wants you.
But, broadly speaking my overall experience was incredibly positive with Amazon. I can’t believe that I was so lucky that I landed in the best teams all by chance.
The one thing that I will agree sucks big time is how they do refreshers. When my pay didn’t keep up with my work, I left. But, if they agreed to pay me more, I would have happily stayed. But, my manager said they were powerless to make that change.
Not sure if people are just trolling, or if I was just super lucky.
