Ivf coverage at different employers

Dec 6, 2021 17 Comments

Hi! I’ve been going through fertility treatment and several more rounds of IVF. I am no longer at Expedia which had Progyny. I have 1 embryo but want more embryo stored up (35 years old now) so we can have 2 kids, and get endometriosis surgery (which decreases egg count but will increase implantation success) done first before implantation. My current company only covers $15k and won’t let me use any of the ivf benefits to get more eggs because I have 1 embryo already.

Can someone provided recommendations on what tech companies have IVF coverage or Progyny? Ideally companies out of NYC or allows remote work?

Also do most companies require you to be an employee before you get maternity leave?

  • It is entirely your personal choice, but since it is an anonymous forum, would mind sharing why you are not having kids now?

Already explained in her post. She needs a surgery first

    • In order to have 2 babies, you usually need at least 4 embryos tested and stored up since there’s only a 60% chance of success with each embryo. I only have 1 so far…hence why I need more rounds of ivf. My health condition also makes implantation harder so I may need even more than 4 embryos.

There are some older threads on this. I sent you a DM with some resources I found. Good luck with your surgery!

Also Adobe covers 3 full IVF cycles (thru Aetna HSA) and has roles in NYC. I’m not how soon you can take maternity leave.

You can do back to back embryo cycles and bank embryos with Adobe coverage.

  • For those who say it’s not worth it to switch just for this, you may not be aware but it typically costs $30k-$40k per round of ivf so if an employer pays for 3 rounds, that’s worth $90-$120k. I know someone who paid for 5 rounds of ivf to have 1 baby. So it’s not an insignificant benefit.

With so many opportunities out there, why stay for a 2-5% raise, when I can switch for a higher TC and get a critical health benefit which could be worth $100k to me?

it’s usually $100k to adopt and a very long wait and $150k to have a surrogate, so those options aren’t that much cheaper than IVF. I also would prefer to have that experience of carrying my own child.

Not related to your question but…who told you that having removal of your endometriosis lowers your egg count? I’ve had that surgery and that’s not true unless they remove an ovary or tube. Your egg count remains.
