Last year my visa status has been changed from student F1 to h1 B, my employer dint change my work status in payroll, so FICA(ss and medicare) taxes has not been deducted for the year 2020.

Now that i told my employer on change of status, they changed it but i owe Fica taxes for 8months, who is the right person to contact to make this thing right? Please advice #workvisa #h1b #taxes

You can ask your employer to deduct for prior months. Else pay it when you file taxes this year.

What is the possible impact for employee if FICA deduction is not started getting deducted by employer. I read that it is employers responsibility and not employees. Can it impact visa status or extension.

Usually happens when immigration team dose not communicate it to payments team. You need to inform your hr/payments team. Need to provide h1 approval notice. Payments team will deduct it for the prior months and moving forward.

It is up to the employer. Fica taxes is not your responsibility.
