Got an offer from LinkedIn for Staff role. I had interviewed for Sr. Staff but it seems interview feedback was not strong enough for the Sr Staff role so offered me Staff instead. I have other strong offers for real Staff level roles at other companies so I had to decline.

YOE: 12
Offer: 240K/15% bonus/850K RSU/50K signon

can you use one thread to list all the offers you have so that it is easier to compare? Btw, congratulations.

  • That’s a very solid staff offer. I used to make 280k tc as staff few years ago

Curious about your level at Amazon.

  • I’ve interviewed several Amazon L6s recently and unfortunately they don’t come close to sr staff roles at LinkedIn. And on top of that, Seattle comp bands for us are lower than Bay Area comp bands so beating other offers is hard when they pay the same for remote roles

      OP
Sure. There are L6 at Amazon with 15+ years of experience as well but those are the exceptional case as I would imagine the 20 yr Staff in LinkedIn to be. When I look at the job descriptions for Sr Staff I see min 10+ years of experience having lead multiple teams cross functionally. I have done that for a few years with multiple AWS teams. It is fine if they did not find the right signals in the interview; I totally respect LinkedIn’s interview process but their Staff is certainly not equivalent to FB E6 or Google L6. Before I declined the offer I had multiple discussions with the managers and engineering leaders to understand the scope of Staff vs Sr Staff. and the difference in comp (150-200K) is not just because of the location.

    • I don’t know about your specific situation but assuming you’re in Seattle, you’ll get about 10% less than a Bay Area offer so that’s only about 50k lower, and yeah that’s still lower than the avg sr staff offer but not by 200k. As for E6/L6, it’s true for the most part that LinkedIn staff won’t get those but since it is a wide band, I’ve seen examples of people who moved from LinkedIn staff to Facebook E6 or google l6. You can do a simple search on LinkedIn to find the google cases but not FB since they don’t have titles on their profile
