The rumors were true... Uber just laid off 500+ marketing employees this morning.
What tech companies have exceptional marketing departments? I want to start looking now.

However, if you put yourself in driver's seat at Uber (pun intended) and think what reasons you would take your sales and slash them by 1/3, when your company just did IPO and was hoping to grow x times, there are very few things that I can come up with.
This happened with various companies at various times - snap at some point went through this and they bounced back when they held a promise of UI refresh - when that promise tanked, stock took a beating.
The sad as well as easy to predict part is, once they go IPO, a CEOs life revolves around next quarter earnings - basically dancing to WS tunes. I can see that blueprint. Again as I said my reasons are the 'usual' and obvious ones. There is definitely a non zero possibility that I don't have the bigger picture (read my first line in this comment).
