So the 7,000 lay off mission officially began today with Iger stating it would carry through April before it’s all said and done. Curious to know which teams have been impacted. I will update as I see confirmation from others. As of 04/18/2023: initial rounds were done end of March, but the large bulk of the 7K will happen in April. April layoffs now expected to begin early next week. Teams Impacted [updated 04/27/2023] • Next-Gen Storytelling (50 employees) • AMA • Beijing team (legacy Hulu) • Advanced Research Team • Disney Entertainment #Disney #layoff #entertainment
Did the 7k count the RTO people that chose to leave?
Disney employee here. AMA.
We really won’t know this week. The 7k is in 3 waves. Wave 1 is this week. Seems to be focused on cutting out whole teams that are not needed. This wave is smaller. Next wave is middle of April. That’s the big one. Last wave in June will be a small one. Morale is absolute shit.
Ooof hoping for the best for you - I hear Hulu is in the dark. Agreed on your morale note. I’m in studios, now known at Disney entertainment. We are all just waiting. Seems like our immediate team is safe, but who knows what April and June will bring.
I feel for everyone that have been probably on edge since the announcement on the earnings call. Truly crappy to announce it for the first time on an earnings call, let alone wait this long to carry out the action. Also heard the severance is pretty 💩 too; 1 week for every year of service. Then again, was not expecting them to be generous at all.
The 7k number means any full time position that is filled or was an open position. Meaning if open positions are closed, that counts as a reduction of the 7k. This was confirmed by a VP. There are also dollar amount budgets as targets that are still being targeted for FY23.
That's good then. How many open positions did Disney have?
Round 3k
@ianahb2 not sure if the severance amount changes in this type of scenario, but the general packages are posted in DToolsHR. I believe it is by job level and then tenure. So the lowest amount was for positions lower than a manager for 5 years or less came out to 4 weeks severance pay. Managers that were 5 years or less get 6 weeks and so on.
What is WARN?
“The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act helps ensure advance notice in cases of qualified plant closings and mass layoffs. “
Anyone (internal Disney) know what other groups or teams impacted? I would have thought for sure DMD would be impacted.
What is DMD?
I think they mean DMED. And all teams are being considered, only “safe” roles are the hourly parks & resorts employees.
snowflake you are for sure missing out on the internal disney blind chats discussing this…not sure why you don’t update your company
Doesn’t Blind send a confirmation to your company email to then be accepted to the internal channel?
they do! I don’t see the real harm though. internal blind is going off about beijing teams being laid off right now, so if you’re okay with the information delay then 🤷♂️ I think everyone will get tired of cross posting information to public channels though
Advanced research team was impacted
What did this team do (research-wise)?
Advanced stuff
Hopefully the people making business and product decisions were the only ones cut. 😞
