Okay, so I got an offer from Amazon for a data engineer L5 which is about 30% more than my current TC of 40 LPA (4 million rupees a year). But, after talking to HR (who was extremely obnoxious and rude) and the hiring manager (who seemed fine), I am in two minds now.
Here it goes:
I am working at Expedia as a data engineer. I have been here for a little over three years with an overall experience of 6 years. The work-life balance is acceptable, I am learning new things, my manager is nice, and people at EG are generally friendly and helpful. I might also get promoted in a year and a half if I continue what I am doing.
However, the TC at Amazon is 30% higher. I am not afraid of WLB as I have worked in a pretty harsh work environment before with an average of 14 hours a day before. I am sure there will be a lot of things to learn and Amazon is actually a bigger brand.
But, I actually want to stay at EG. Now, you may ask why? The reasons here are a bit weird:
- I am 29 and planning to marry my girlfriend this year and I want a company from where I can give a bit of time to my new wife
- It's because of the above I think I might start needing some WLB (not afraid to work just different priority) and want to give a shot to companies like Atlassian, Salesforce, etc which gives good TC and WLB. Therefore, I want to prepare for it in the next 6 to 8 months
- My manager and team here are very supportive and I like the work environment which is very fulfilling and I might be able to prepare on the side with the current workload
******
I know I am sounding unambitious but I just want to take it a bit slow for some time because of the new phase of life I will start soon and also because I feel I might actually get into a better company and have a life where I can also give time to my wife. I understand that my TC might take a hit but it's comfortable for me. I might choose to accept it for some time to aspire for something better.
Am I doing right?

Above requirements are a must from my perspective, even if you are marrying your GF.. there are a lot of thing you would actually need time and energy to settle with your partner. So just don’t worry and i must say you won 90 of this battle by thinking in right direction
I was working 15 hours/ day job, left and joined the job that requires 8 hours/day with 30% hike before getting married bcz I wanted spend quality time of 1-2 years without much stress with partner. It really worked for me .
