My husband is interviewing for a role in my team. If he gets hired, we both will share same manager. Right now neither him nor i have told my manager & the recruiter about our relationship. Is there any policy which prevents both of us from being in the same team? I recently joined and i am not clear about the policy. Thanks

  • I think you *must* tell them.

I have done this and I wouldn’t recommend it. It unbalanced the team as coworkers perceived we were more loyal to each other than to others. It eroded trust in established relationships; they wouldn’t criticize her work to me, and assumed I told her anything I heard. It also ensured we talked about nothing but work when we left work every evening. I’m sure other experiences are possible, but we both found it hard. She switched teams after 3 months.

  • Even if you can, why would you? Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen from so many angles, especially from the part that you would conceal it from the start. How would your manager feel if s/he heard only after an offer was extended that this is your significant other! Just wow. Do you not trust / respect your manager?

There should be, and if there’s no it will definitely be safer for you to work on different teams
