Had IKEA furniture in college. It fell apart, but I made it last with some very simple and basic fixes (reinforcing cracked particle boards with dimensional lumber in a hidden spot, replacing broken panels with thin melamine, etc) to save money.
I make a lot of my own furniture now, but when I’m out of my depth I buy quality. I appreciate good, timeless design. IMO, pottery barn is tasteless and ugly. Design Within Reach has the iconic stuff that will last a lifetime. This high end furniture is expensive, but the value (dollar efficiency) is much higher than disposable furniture.
