Amazon L6 SDE - Virtual Onsite

Can someone explain the bar to me for this role? I already know expectations are high for this level but I also know people passed this.

Considering it involves coding, system design and LP. Do they expect nailing all of them or give more weight to one or more compared to others? What are the key insights for those sessions?

You are for sure expected to nail the design round. There is going to be 2
Coding rounds, you can expect LC medium most likely. You need to nail some of the non functional aspects as well - product prioritization, ops, problem solving and on top of it LPs - would focus on dive deep, think big (architecture not code), backbone, insist on the highest standards - all required to be a successful SDE3. In terms of weightage, it varies but I would put something like this - 1. Systems design, general tech. 2. Coding. 3. Product thinking. 4. LPs.

    • Thanks really useful. "Product thinking" falls under design round if understood correctly right?

Designs are high level or low level focused?

Design will certainly start high level to check if you can handle ambiguity and go to data schema, API layer, design choices, bottle necks, trade offs, etc. probably won’t have time to get to lower level design. Product thinking is more like - how do you get a MLP without over engineering a product type of qs. Again varies from org to org but that is the inference they would want to draw.
