So I've been told that #SF is expensive, and that it's cheaper to rent in #SVL #MVT area.
But I checked Trulia and I saw maybe 5 places in Sunnyvale under $1500/month, but I see DOZENS of places in SF (mostly around Tenderloin area) for under $1500/month
Are these places legit? I'm house searching from NYC so worried it may be a scam.
Anything I need to look out for? Are pests (bedbugs, roaches, etc) and noise a big concern?
Are those $1500/month for a studio places worth it or do i need to up my budget? I don't care if the place is small, just need it to be clean and can sleep at night
Thanks!

@new 1800 is already a COVID discount imo. I would be careful on really cheap studios to make sure it has sufficient space, is not on a block that is sketchy, and is actually real. There are a lot of scams going on with apartment leases during the lockdown. Be sure to scope out the area first and make sure you're comfortable with building management and terms + conditions. If it works out anything 1500 and under is really cheap even for the TL.
TL BTW has some bomb ass food in the city. Lots of hole in the wall places. Be sure to check Shalimar and the myriad of ramen + sushi places in the neighborhood. I wouldn't live in the TL forever but it is good way to reduce rent with walkability, eliminate the need for a car, nearby company bus pick ups, and central SF location next to Union Square meaning everything is relatively close. Check out Ava Nob Hill for a studio around $2k. Lots of young working professionals and the set up is decent for what you're paying. There's not a lot of rift raft on that particular part of the TL. Keep in mind that a lot of these cheaper studios will not have the amenities you want so double check to make sure. Hit me up if you want more details.
Trust me here. Also just because you might not get stabbed doesn’t mean it won’t be loud or annoying to live in.

I’m personally gonna decide after driving around during my first month being in company housing, but currently my leaning is that a short commute is important enough that maybe I’ll be in San Mateo so I can drive to both work and the city relatively easily (also hear it’s downtown is decent) OR I’ll shack up in one of the more active suburbs or closer to Stanford or San Jose if I feel it can be a decent social scene.
Feel free to DM me since it seems we’re both making the move soon.
