why google think they are better than facebook re: user privacy?

i responded to a google post in https://us.teamblind.com/s/MpgtGd4j and wanted to create a separate post on what i find is ironic.

f has made several *mistakes* regarding user privacy. there is no denying that.

it is fair for other companies o criticize but i often see g throwing shit at f about how terrible it is at breaching user privacy as if they are any better.

- G owns doubleclick who invented creepy-user-following ads.
- Remember gmap street view used to have people’s face and license plates unmasked? And why are they taking picture of houses and private roads?
- Google glass that can record all conversations?
- What about scanning email message to find the most optimal ad?

all these examples are results of very explicit intentional decisions g made to maximize profit.

on the other hand, notorious Cambridge Analytica and plain password are poor engineering and result of moving fast and not intentional business decisions. privacy breach is still privacy breach and there is no execuse (we are sorry, we wont do it again) but at least, f doesn’t do it intentionally.

so what do you think? is g better and in a position to criticize f?
