We dropped PMO in favor of agile coaches - our last project manager was fired 2 weeks ago.

So far, agile coaching seems to be a lot of worthless meetings. I really don’t think agile was that difficult to begin with, and it’s hard for me to fathom why we need full time coaches for something we’ve done for years.

I’m curious what other engineers think, or have experienced with agile coaches.

  • Whenever I hear "agile coach" or even better "scrum master", I think of a banana cutter: it's like here is a banana, easy to peel, but hell no. We invented this crappy tool and have zero understanding how it works, so in order to use it we need someone to explain. Multiple times, because we're that dumb and things just don't stay in our heads for too long.

  • Agile coaches speak a lot and do nothing. They don’t maintain any artifacts like typical PMs.

      Coaches are not supposed to produce anything, they are not some kind of white collar workers. They talk and wave hands.

  • Agile and scrum coaches are made up careers by old people not connected to reality or modern technology to stay relevant and get paid a lot.

    The hard core evangelists cause more harm than good.

    Agile coaching is yet another newfound wealth creation path. Most of these folks doesn’t seem to understand how products are actually built and think there is one way to accomplish end result. I like short feedback loop and all but why the heck it has to be this complicated with names like scam master. I think companies who are failing to deliver are the ones who thinks process will get them out of the hole. Umm sorry
