Less than 25 I've been dialing it in for the last few months and doing LC and interviews. I realized I can save a ton of time by not getting involved in every issue and not bending over backwards to help others. If I don't know the answer, I just say I don't know or point them to someone else.

I do 30 hours at most for last 3 years. Just need to find exact things to work on and correctly estimate work. Most people underestimate work a lot!

Around same for me. Been at amazon for over 5 years with multiple teams. Retail + Alexa teams. It is one hundred percent about earning trust and managing expectations. Push back hard when you need to and have bias for action/ be able to deliver results for tasks that matter. Don’t waste time on trying to finish every small thing. Pretty close to hitting sde3, but decided to just jump to fb for something new.

Most team around me are pretty chilled. We only put additional effort if we are lagging behind the deadline, which happens at most couple of times a year. There are far more times where I don’t have to put more than 20 hours.

Really, shocked? Look at some of the higher profile projects with aggressive deadlines, at least one of which is tied to FCC commitments, and hardware schedules. Add Amazon top down engineering and PIP culture to the mix.

I would just like to say I'm glad I ignored the blind comments on here about how brutal Amazon is. I like my team and I sign off at 5-6 pm every day, as do they. Don't believe the hype and don't let anyone stop you from getting your money. Not saying that it's not a reality on some teams but it is not a uniform culture.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

@ndtv @MAfx36 there's always going to be some amount of politics in a company this large. I've seen a lot of teams build the same solutions repeatedly and stupid managers push for stupid deadlines. Just know that once you're in, it's very easy to switch to a good team. There are many great teams here, especially on the ML side.
